Stephan grew up on the water long before he ever set foot in a showroom. His father, a lifelong yacht enthusiast, started out boating on the Danube in Vienna before moving up to a Cranchi, and eventually a Princess 45 - built in 1989, and the boat that shaped Stephan's childhood. From his very first year of life he was on board, spending family holidays exploring the Adriatic coast, and it was there, at his father's side, that his love of the sea, and of the Princess brand in particular, first took hold.
“It's really in my blood,” he says. “I was on board with my parents from my very first year, discovering the Adriatic coast along the way. Growing up on my father's Princess 45 is where it all started.”
That early passion didn't chart a straight course, though. Stephan spent the years up to his thirtieth birthday working as a sound engineer in the music business, before trading the studio for the sea. He gained hands-on experience as a deckhand and seaman, including an ocean passage from Martinique through the West Indies and Venezuela to Curaçao aboard the yacht Sagitta. Wanting to combine that passion for the water with a growing interest in sales, he took on a sales and marketing role with a Vienna-based Princess dealer and brokerage house - a position that saw him sent to Croatia as the company's Sales Manager for the Adriatic coast, the very waters he had explored as a boy on his father's Princess 45. From there it was a short step to Mallorca, where he joined Argo Yachting and Princess Motor Yacht Sales, and has been based at Puerto Portals ever since.
For Stephan, selling Princess isn't really a career choice - it's closer to coming full circle. His approach is a personal one: understanding what each client is really looking for, whether they're stepping aboard their first Princess or trading up to their fifth yacht through Argo.
Away from the showroom, Stephan brings a little Viennese charm to the Mediterranean - an espresso, a bit of banter and an open door at Puerto Portals go a long way, and clients often become good friends along the way.
