The Best Seat in Spain. Watching Spain's Eclipse of the Century in Mallorca

On 12 August, guests of Princess Motor Yacht Sales witnessed Spain's first total solar eclipse in over a century - rafted up together, with front-row seats on the water just off Mallorca.

The spectacle was truly worth the wait. This was the first total solar eclipse to be visible from Spain since 1905. The next one will be in 2053!

Totality arrived at around 8:31pm. For one minute and thirty-six seconds, the moon slid fully across the sun, leaving a dark disc crowned by its fiery corona and casting an eerie twilight over the Mediterranean - before returning as a brilliant orange fireball, sinking towards the western horizon. There was no better spot to see the eclipse than at sea, with an uninterrupted view and completely clear western horizon.

The evening itself was everything we had hoped for. Boats started arriving from 5pm, rafted up in a relaxed, sociable atmosphere, with drinks flowing, plenty to eat, and boat owners old and new out on deck viewing the event through the special eclipse glasses that were handed out to every guest. While this was a Princess hosted event, boat owners of various marques came to raft up alongside and enjoy the party atmosphere.

This was a very special occasion, made even more special by its unique location, out on the Med, in the company of fellow boat owners.
